Revel is starting 2023 with a big announcement that will transform New York City’s charging landscape: we’re building 5 new Superhubs throughout the city to triple New Yorkers’ public fast charging access. The new sites will be:

  • 60 stalls in Maspeth, Queens

  • 30 stalls in Port Morris, The Bronx

  • 20 stalls in Red Hook, Brooklyn

  • 16 stalls at the historic Dime building in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn

  • 10 stalls at Pier 36 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan

New York City must develop thousands of charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) to support the state's phase-out of gasoline-powered cars and trucks by 2035, according to transportation officials. The city requires 40,000 publicly available plugs and 6,000 fast chargers, compared with the current infrastructure of around 1,300 pieces of equipment available to all EVs.

This goal will require a significant investment in capital, which requires a lot of confidence to justify the upfront investment, said Paul Suhey, COO of charging and ride-share provider Revel Transit. Furthermore, expensive real estate, permitting difficulties, and supply chain issues can pose additional problems, which is likely to be replicated across the country as urban areas try to increase the number of EV chargers.
